The AMMO Children’s Literary Festival
A three-day festival in Majuli, conceptualised, curated, and organised entirely by the students of The Hummingbird School.
The name
AMMO
ɑ·moː · noun
AMMO means seed in the Mising language, the language of the community that built The Hummingbird School.
The festival lives up to its name. Started in 2024, AMMO creates spaces where ideas can be planted, nurtured, and shared, by children, for children. Every aspect of the festival is owned by students: programme design, speaker invitations, fundraising, logistics. In doing so they learn not just about literature, but about leadership, collaboration, negotiation, and accountability.

The annual Assamese theatre production
Adapted from the classic Assamese novella by Nabakanta Baruah. Class 8 students brought every character to life with confidence, humour, and charm, for a full house of 800+ community members.
