Founder bio

Short version · for use in standfirsts and bylines

Bipin Dhane is the founder of The Hummingbird School and Executive Director of Ayang Trust. A BTech/MTech alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, he moved from Maharashtra to Majuli in 2016 after several years working in Singapore.

In partnership with the Mising community of Kulamua and 18 neighbouring villages, who donated land, bamboo, timber, and labour, he opened The Hummingbird School in January 2017. The school now serves 309 children, of whom 100 live on campus at The Hummingbird Home.

A second Hummingbird campus opened in July 2025 in Bichom, Arunachal Pradesh, for children of the Puroik tribe, one of India’s smallest indigenous communities.
